POSITIONS AVAILABLE
- Fostering (Info): Foster parents provide temporary housing and care for shelter animals until they are ready for adoption. Volunteers serve as surrogate parents, bottle-feeding kittens and puppies until they can eat on their own.
- Cat Care Assistant: Help ensure the well-being of cats through socialization (petting, holding, playing) and grooming (brushing), as well as assisting the public by providing information about available cats and cat care.
- H.E.A.L.: (Helping Enhance Animals Lives) Volunteers are trained to socialize the dogs in the Pet Adoption Centers. They also help stimulate dogs mentally to alleviate stress brought on by boredom. To increase the dogs' chances for successful, long-term adoptions, volunteers also train the dogs for good manners and basic obedience.
- Humane Education (Overview): Volunteers give presentations at schools, civic organizations and clubs on proper pet care and the importance of spaying and neutering.
- Animal Assisted Therapy (AAT): Take your own well-behaved animals to hospitals and convalescent homes to enhance physical and emotional therapy to the residents.
- Fundraising: Work with the Fund Development Department on programs and special events to raise money to support our efforts for the animals.
- spcaLA Street Team: "Street Teams" reach the "consumer" directly by distributing flyers, hanging posters, sending emails, telling friends, etc.
- Laundry: Wash, dry, fold blankets and towels. Requires handling soiled items.
- Special Projects: spcaLA can use your help on short-term assignments such as research projects, clerical assistance, graphic design, etc. Please let us know what your interest is and we can match it to our needs.
- Web Pet Photographers: The spcaLA's website is a valuable venue for promoting the adoption of homeless pets. Volunteer photographers take photos each week and prepare them for posting on spcaLA's website and for "pet of the week" newspaper profiles.
