Save a Life. Become a Foster Parent.
Foster parents are needed year round. We receive animals from cruelty cases that require special care and also kittens and puppies who need another chance. The springtime is especially busy with kitten season.
These animals need foster care to help them grow healthy and/or old enough to be adopted.
Who should foster?
Anyone willing to make the commitment is an ideal foster parent. Fostering is great for people who want to help, but prefer to do it on their own time, around their schedule. For example, a "momma cat" does most of the work. You simply provide a clean home, safe environment, some food, water, and a place for the momma to take a break twice a day.
What should I expect?
Being a foster parent can provide you with a feeling of satisfaction, knowing that you’ve directly saved a life by giving it a second chance.
Any expenses?
spcaLA provides all supplies necessary to care for a foster animal.
How long is the commitment?
Animals can be in your home from a week to a month or more depending on the animal’s health and circumstance. The length of stay can be approximated prior to a fostering commitment to allow for personal planning. The time commitment is up to you and your schedule.
Will my pets be affected?
By giving your pets reassurance, most have no trouble adjusting to strange animals in the house. There is no need for foster animals to come in contact with your pets, and we recommend restricting your fostering activities to a separate room or area of the house.
