spcaLA's Summer Camp Information

Welcome to the spcaLA’s summer camp information page! We are glad to see that you are interested in the spcaLA’s 5th annual summer camp. (Please note that the name Camp Pedee is no longer being used, but spcaLA’s summer camp is still the same program!)

spcaLA's Summer Camp is a week long and is designed for 8-13 year olds. At the camp, participants learn basic care of and responsibility for pets, respect for animals, and the beginnings of dog training -- all while having fun with friends! Younger children (8-10) will participate in animal related games, activities and crafts. They will also learn the basic of dog handling and training, plus much more. Older campers (11-13) will also participate in animal related crafts and activities, watch a surgery, see dog training demos, and do obedience and agility training with shelter dogs.

New this year: Counselor-in-Training Program

There is also a new opportunity for graduated campers!  Anyone between the ages of 14 and 16 who has attended spcaLA’s Summer Camp in the past may apply to be a Camp Counselor In Training (C.I.T.).  If you are interested in learning more about this please CLICK HERE.

summer camp logoAfter your registration is complete and your child has been accepted, a confirmation packet will be emailed to you. This packet will include a confirmation of the camp dates and requirements, a liability waiver that must be signed and returned to spcaLA by June 1st, and a set of camp rules that must be signed and returned prior to the camp date. Although a confirmed payment will hold a spot in the camp, a camper will not be allowed to attend spcaLA's summer camp if the liability wavier hasn’t been signed and returned by June 1st.

Here are some reminders about spcaLA's summer camp:

  • Camp is for children ages 8-13 only. If your child is not 8 years old by the start of the session in which he is enrolled, he or she will not be allowed to attend. Proof of age may be required if it is suspected that your child is younger than 8 years old.
  • NEW! If you are between the ages of 14 and16, have graduated from the spcaLA’s summer camp program in the past, and are interested in coming back to camp as a Counselor In Training (C.I.T) please CLICK HERE.
  • Lunch is not provided so each camper should bring a sack lunch every day.
  • One camp t-shirt is included in the cost. You may purchase additional t-shirts for $15.00 each.
  • Long pants and closed-toe shoes must be worn for dog training. Shorts can be worn to camp, but each camper must change into pants prior to dog training.
  • spcaLA does not guarantee the use of shelter dogs. It is up to the discretion of the spcaLA whether or not shelter dogs can safely be used during summer camp .
  • Participating in spcaLA’s summer camp means that each and every camper will be working hands-on with shelter animals. Although the spcaLA staff takes the precautions necessary to ensure your child’s safety and health, there is an inherent risk when working with shelter animals. These risks include but are not limited to: bodily injury, illness/parasites, unforeseen allergies, etc. By signing the signature line at the end of the application, you are acknowledging that you understand these risks.  If you have any questions about these risks, please do not hesitate to contact the Humane Education staff at humaneeducation@spcala.com.
